The town has ancient origins, but since the early 1900s, its marked vocation towards the future has made it the valley’s modern commercial and services capital, which has become famous for its markets, trade fairs, institutions and “city” life. This modernity has been expressed on an urban planning level too, giving Morciano a rationalist or at any rate “twentieth-century” form that is quite evident, with some 19th-century signs still preserved in the oldest part of the town, where the main church, a small square and a few shops and inns and taverns brought together a particularly enterprising community that has always been focused on and looks towards the future.

Don’t miss:

the town streets of Morciano that are like a natural shopping centre, the old town centre, featuring the 18th-century church; Piazza Boccioni with the Colpo d’Ala sculpture by Arnaldo Pomodoro and the remains of the Abbey of San Gregorio, dating back to the 11th century.
