Montefiore (TCI Orange Flag and one of the most beautiful villages in Italy) is considered by many to be the medieval capital of the Conca Valley; its imposing fortress, like “a medieval skyscraper seeking the light”, dominates the lands of the Malatesta Seignory and all of Romagna, with unique panoramic views, that on a clear day span from Ravenna to the border with the Marche. Today, Montefiore is a village nestled in the green woods and meadows that surround it and many paths lead from here into the beautiful countryside. The old town centre retains many signs of its ancient history.

Don’t miss: 14th-16th century Malatesta Fortress, frescoes by Jacopo Avanzi, Malatesta artefacts, views from the terraces; ancient potter’s workshop; 14th-century Church of San Paolo, Madonna with Child and angel by Bernardino Dolci, 14th-century Rimini school Crucifix; hospital church with frescoes; boundary walls with towers; 14th-15th century Curina Gate; Malatesta Theatre; Sanctuary of the Madonna of Bonora; MISAM open-air sculpture museum; CAI footpath network.
